TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Two children were rescued mere minutes after they were kidnapped in a carjacking Monday, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Jonathan Pazmino Alvarez was flagged down Monday around 6:40 p.m. near the area of East 137th Avenue and North 15th Street in Tampa by a man who said his truck had just been stolen with his two young children still inside.




1st responders rescue goats, horses trapped in flooding in North Port, Venice

NORTH PORT, Fla. (WFLA) — Recovery operations in Sarasota County continued into the weekend after Hurricane Ian brought heavy flooding to the southern parts of the county. The photos showed homes partially submerged by floodwater, which nearly reached the rooftop of one house. Other photos showed livestock stuck in the flooding, including horses and goats.

Florida deputies formed a human chain to make a daring rescue of a woman who was caught in surging floodwaters caused by Hurricane Ian last week. The rescue happened Friday when Orange County sheriff's deputies responded to a woman whose car had been swept away by an "extreme current" in flooding where the Little Econ River surged, according to the department. Body camera captured the deputies wading into the rushing waters to pull the woman to safety.




School resource officer performs CPR on a baby

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Tense moments for a mother whose baby apparently stopped breathing were caught on camera outside a Lee County school. The mother exits the car, which is stationed in the middle of a pickup lane for parents to retrieve their students; with the baby cradled in her arms, she begins shouting for help. Deputy Bill Weaver, a school resource officer, quickly rushes to the mother's aid. The video shows Weaver taking the child and proceeding to give it back thrusts and chest compressions, the infant begins breathing and its life is saved.




Riviera Beach police officer hailed a hero following rip current rescue

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. — Decades of training and experience boiled down to a few frantic minutes during a nail-biting ocean rescue to save the lives of two people. Officer Joseph Hoffman of the Riviera Beach Police Department has a career in law enforcement spanning over two decades.

"I think the longer you work in community, the more you fall in love with it," Hoffman said. "The citizens and whatnot, you feel almost like they’re your kids."




Two hikers rescued by Collier County Sheriff’s Office helicopter

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A CCSO helicopter crew rescued two hikers from the Big Cypress Preserve after a storm on Friday.

“It feels good, to know that we helped somebody in need. Helicopter operations are very dangerous. So we didn’t want to spend a lot of time out there – get in and get out. Rescue specialists did a great job. Pilots did a great job,” said Cpl. Matt Macera of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, one of the pilots on the mission.

Unresponsive man pulled from boat fire in Martin County

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — A Martin County man was taken to a hospital Sunday evening after two marine deputies were able to pull him out of a burning boat. Martin County Sheriff's Office Deputies Buddy Sprott and Dan Hill pulled the unresponsive boater out from the cabin moments before it collapsed. Deputies said the flames from the burning vessel were so hot that they melted part of the sheriff's office boat.




Okaloosa Sheriff’s deputies save child from burning home

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Two Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputies are being treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation after they saved an autistic child from a burning home, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. The sheriff’s office got the call of a home that caught fire on Whispering Oaks Lane near Fort Walton Beach Wednesday afternoon. Deputies went into the home and found the child on the second floor in a bedroom. They were able to bring him out to safety.
